Signature Disk (Greek Style Calamari)

Simply Tops’ signature plate traditional calamari is steeped in history. A customary seaside dish in the Greek Islands, calamari was not always as popular as it is today. When Christos Gatis first opened the first shop almost 40 years ago, he had to broaden the palate of his customers and educate his suppliers. He begged fisherman to give him their squid catches and ignored their derisions that Greeks where so crazy they would even eat bait.
Christos' delicate Mediterranean-style, tasty morsels overcame the scepticism and reluctance of the locals and the traditional calamari became a hit! The recipe is the same as it was four decades ago – subtly prepared, tender calamari cut up into fat rings lightly tossed in flour, deep fried and seasoned simply with salt nestled among crispy tentacles. Order it with a Greek salad for a deliciously balanced meal.
